My boss, who happens to be in this next video, sent me this link, and really? They've got a point. Tonight was amazing, and marvelous, and a relief, and a joy, and the very best thing that could happen ever, but it is one night. The change we want so desperately in this country cannot come from the people in Washington. It cannot be legislated into law, it can't be forced or coerced. It must come from the people.
So really, if you voted (and I know you did), perhaps take it a step further (if you don't already).
Suggestion? Start local! Find something that turns your crank in the place you dwell, and see what kind of help you could chuck their way. Maybe some time! Maybe some money! Maybe a combo deal - who knows!
What do I do? I donate $25 a month to an organization called Second Harvest, which is a food bank in the Bay Area that helps low income families and people in need get some FOOD in their bellies. One of my most favorite things ever ever ever is yummy yummy food, going past my lips and into my belly. But I realized that there are people in my neck of the woods (not in far off continents in countries I had never heard of, but RIGHT HERE) that aren't getting enough to eat. And because of the shite economic climate, more and more people are turning to the food banks for help, because they can't afford to eat.
I think I would just about cry my eyes out if I couldn't eat. Because food?! YUMMY!! So I decided Second Harvest was getting my dollars. And they are also getting my time! I'm walking in the Turkey Trot in San Jose, which is donating the proceeds to Second Harvest and some other folks. Should be an excellent time. I even got the PiCT to sign up with me. :)
